Heisman Trophy Best Bets 2010 Part One
It won't be long until the 2010 college football season starts ans shortly thereafter we'll be discussing who is in prime position to win the Heisman Trophy. As usual, even without playing a game this season we have a host of candidates vying for college sports' most coveted prize. We'll do our preview in several parts, five candidates at a time, so lets look at the first five.
Jake Locker, QB, Washington:
Locker could have easily been a top NFL draft pick last season and he decided to come back and give it a go one more time. Of the season ended before it started, it would be Locker's award and he would be the number one overall NFL pick. As we all know, there will be plenty of football between now and that Fall evening in New York when the presentation takes place but it's always nice to have the lead. Locker's Huskies play a brutal schedule so he'll have plenty of chances to prove his worthiness.
Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama:
There has only been one two time Heisman Trophy winner so the chances on last year's winner, Mark Ingram, pulling off the feat are pretty slim but Ingram has a lot of factors working in his favor. He plays on the number one team in the nation, he has plenty of help on the roster, and most importantly he'll get plenty of chances on National Television to show his stuff in front of the voters. let's not forget, these are also the same people who voted for him a year ago.
Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State:
Boise State isn't just a novelty act anymore and we see this with Moore. Moore is just a Junior but he's already a two year starter and better yet, he's one of the most accurate passers in the nation. Moore is the returning leader in touchdown to interception ratio and with Boise already figuring to be solid and with a pre-season top five ranking, we'll be seeing and hearing plenty about the Broncos and I'm sure much of it will be about a potentially controversial scenario where the Boise State goes to the National Title game.
Noel Devine, RB, West Virginia:
Since the day he stepped on campus in Morgantown the expectations have been sky high for Noel Devine, and he hasn't disappointed for a second. Devine has already proved he is a home run threat every time he touches the ball. With the Mountaineers more than likely figuring prominently on the National scene, Devine has a good chance to turn even more heads.
Terrelle Pryor, QB, Ohio State:
Ohio State always seems to have someone in the Heisman Trophy race and to have a Heisman Trophy winner in Columbus is nothing new. Expectation for Pryor have been huge since the day he stepped on campus in Columbus and towards the end of last season, we finally saw some fulfilling of the potential that has been spoken about so often. The Buckeyes will be on TV plenty so if Pryor can pull of some heroics, he may still be on this list at the end of November.
